Crema Suprema opens for Buddy Valastro (AKA Cake Boss)

Not only has my grad film received worldwide recognition from festivals like Cannes International Film Festival Short Film Corner, and won 3 awards as well as 5 nominations, but "Crema Suprema" will now be screened at the first Canada's Baking and Sweets Show at the International Centre in Toronto on Oct. 2.

The film opens for "the Boss" Buddy Valastro, from the TV show Cake Boss. I added monkeys on the left (not seen in the movie), and a ladybug in the bottom right side, both symbolic to my niece. I gave it a very simple concept/storybook feel to it and I changed the colours to match the baby's furniture/room decor. And yes, the house is not the one from the movie, it looks like the home where the baby lives.

Balloon Seminar sketch dump

Many of you know that aside from living in "Animationland", I also have one foot in "Balloonland" (like the main character in the new Pixar movie "UP"). I was extremely surprised to hear of such a story line, since I create balloon decorations/event decorating, when I am not animating. I can't wait to see "UP" on May 29th! I guess my balloon-related story ideas should be thrown out the window now that Pixar got their hands on such a unique story...ARGH....
Anyways, here are sketches from a balloon seminar I went to. Yes the balloon is a 3ft. balloon, so it is meant to look that big. And yes, there are balloon decorating classes/seminars!!! 3D model of a biker I am working on. I know...how predictable of me, a Harley lover, to make this kind of character! Ha ha ha

I am still in the beginning stages of the model. I did a few quick sketches of the basic shape of him first. Then, I used the sketches as reference while beginning to sculpt the model in Maya.

I only have a few quick renders to show. When I post pictures of him a little further along in the process, I will set up the proper lighting, I promise.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on behalf of Wing It Productions for enjoying our stop-motion film that we created this summer.

We had a great time creating it and it was great to see everyone react to it positively. Thanks for your support and suggestions to enter it into festivals!

I'm glad we were able to make everyone smile on our first day back to school!

As most of you know, I already completed my internship last summer. So...this summer I decided to gather a group of people interested in stop motion to test out making a film in this type of animation. It became our major summer project and fulfilled their requirements for an internship. We visited Cuppa Coffee and had a lot of support from them. Thanks to Dave Thomas, in particular, for that fantastic tour of the studio. We were very inspired!

Most of them deal with experimentation on colour, lighting and drapery...all the aspects we are concentrating on this year. We are now trying to not only be able to draw what we see, but incorporate our ability to analyze the figure and portray it in the following ways: structurally sound, use of good design elements, and a sense of character. The practice continues.....

Most of you know about my Italian heritage. It felt good to get back to my roots last summer. I met many relatives I had never met before. This quick watercolour sketch was actually my grandfather's home a long time ago. It is now a stucco home, but with the help of my relatives, they described to me how it should look and I sketched it and painted it the way they told me to. I was told it turned out really close to the way it actually looked. I brought it back home as a gift for my dad, since that was the first home he lived in. I had a problem scanning it in properly, but you get the idea...

This was done in 2005 when I went camping. After coming across sketches like this, and being inspired by other artists, I really want to sit and paint from life again. At the time, I only had about 20 minutes to set up and paint this and then head back to the campsite. It was a fun quick sketch. I can't wait to camping again this summer!
