All of the uploads from today's postings are life drawings from last year and this year. They are a mixture of gestures, short poses, and longer poses. Most of them deal with experimentation on colour, lighting and drapery...all the aspects we are concentrating on this year. We are now trying to not only be able to draw what we see, but incorporate our ability to analyze the figure and portray it in the following ways: structurally sound, use of good design elements, and a sense of character. Sono italiano

Most of you know about my Italian heritage. It felt good to get back to my roots last summer. I met many relatives I had never met before. This quick watercolour sketch was actually my grandfather's home a long time ago. It is now a stucco home, but with the help of my relatives, they described to me how it should look and I sketched it and painted it the way they told me to. I was told it turned out really close to the way it actually looked. I brought it back home as a gift for my dad, since that was the first home he lived in. I had a problem scanning it in properly, but you get the idea...
Watercolour Sketch

This was done in 2005 when I went camping. After coming across sketches like this, and being inspired by other artists, I really want to sit and paint from life again. At the time, I only had about 20 minutes to set up and paint this and then head back to the campsite. It was a fun quick sketch. I can't wait to camping again this summer!
